FAQ & Support

How can we help?

Practical answers based on the current ChromTV experience. Never send provider passwords, tokens or full private URLs in a support request.

Getting started

What is ChromTV?

ChromTV is a media player and client for iPhone and Apple TV. It organises the compatible TV or media service you choose to connect.

Does ChromTV include channels or a media subscription?

No. ChromTV does not sell or provide channels, streams, films, series or a provider subscription. You need your own compatible service and must be authorised to use it.

How do I add a source?

Open Sources and add either a compatible playlist source with programme-guide details, or a compatible account-based source. Enter only details supplied by a service you are authorised to use.

What is Explore Demo?

It is an offline, fictional catalogue that lets you explore the normal ChromTV interface without a source. Demo channels, programmes, artwork and video are synthetic. You can enter it from Sources or Settings and leave it from Settings.

Playback

Why will a channel, film or episode not play?

Availability, stream health, authentication and formats depend on your service. Check your network and service, refresh the source, and try another item. ChromTV may offer another configured stream for the same channel when one exists.

How do I change audio or subtitles?

Open the player controls and choose the audio/subtitle menu. Only tracks supplied by the stream are listed. Subtitle appearance can be adjusted from the normal player/settings controls.

Which formats are supported?

ChromTV uses the playback engines included with the app and automatically chooses a compatible path. Actual codec, container, audio, subtitle and seeking support depends on the media supplied by your service; ChromTV does not promise support for every provider format.

What is catch-up or archive playback?

Past programmes can be opened only when your service marks them as available and supplies a compatible archive URL. ChromTV does not host archive content and does not create permanent recordings or downloads.

Apple TV and navigation

How do I navigate on Apple TV?

Use the Siri Remote directional controls to move focus, press the centre/select control to open an item, and use Back to return. Player controls provide play/pause, timeline interaction where the stream is seekable, and audio/subtitle selection where tracks exist.

Why can I not seek?

Seeking is shown only when the selected live, catch-up or on-demand stream reports a usable seekable range. Some live or provider streams do not support it.

Sources and On Demand

Where are provider credentials stored?

On the device, source definitions and credentials use Apple Keychain protection. If you enable Cloud Sync, source information is sent through ChromTV's protected cloud connection, processed for device merging and stored as an AES-256-GCM encrypted document. This is encrypted cloud storage, not end-to-end encryption.

How do I remove a source?

Use the remove action for that source in ChromTV. This removes the local source and its credentials. If Cloud Sync is active, the deletion is synchronised as a source change.

How do Continue Watching and watched status work?

Viewing progress, history, Continue Watching and the watchlist are stored locally in the reviewed release. History can be cleared in Settings. They are not part of the current Cloud Sync payload.

Cloud Sync and subscription

Is Cloud Sync required?

No. ChromTV works without an account. Cloud Sync is optional and uses Sign in with Apple when enabled.

What does Cloud Sync include?

It can sync selected guide/playback settings, channel and category preferences, favourites within those preferences, stream-to-channel adjustments, device sync status and source definitions. See the Privacy Policy for the complete distinction between local, provider and ChromTV cloud processing.

How do I turn Cloud Sync off or delete my account?

Sign out in Settings to stop account access and future sync on that device. Signing out does not delete existing cloud records. To permanently delete the ChromTV account and its server data, open Settings → Account → Delete Account and confirm with Sign in with Apple. Local data deletion is on by default; turn it off before confirming only if you want sources and playback state to remain on that device.

How are subscriptions managed?

Purchases and renewals are managed through your Apple Account and the App Store. Deleting a ChromTV account does not cancel an Apple subscription. Manage or cancel it in Apple's subscription settings. If you later create a new ChromTV account, use Restore Purchases so an eligible subscription can be verified and associated with the new account without restoring deleted cloud data. Any current offer is displayed from the App Store; this site does not promise a trial or price.
